calling your parents (or other adults in your life) on their sh*t

My niece did it the other day, saying, You're being awfully sarcastic.

Wow. I was shocked, both that she actually said those words, and that she was right. So I apologized (or, I hope I did). I wish I'd had the presence of mind to say, you know, that's an old habit, something I'm working on, thank you for pointing it out.

But hey, it's all new, learning something every day. Not to excuse it, but I was caught off guard - she's only 8, fer cryin' out loud! But a sharp cookie, and keeps me on my toes. Which I'm glad of.

They learn so fast, and they're watching your every move.
