in the mind and heart and soul.
They shut out who *you* are
and supplant that person – the real you –
with something altogether different.

You forgot to mention they have low expectations.
It is maddening.
This is the thing. I have found that people believe everyone is doing the same thing just some are better at it.
You are a musician. You are not doing the same thing as someone who can play a few songs only better. They do not seem to understand that.
